Clean Earth of Morgantown, located in Morgantown, West Virginia, is a Part B permitted TSDF, capable of receiving a large variety of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes in drums, totes and bulk. Our treatment, disposal, and recycling process combines leading edge concepts with proven technology to provide reuse and recycling options without higher costs. Capabilities include processing aerosol cans, paints, and traditional consumer household products, in metal, plastic and even glass containers. With the ability to batch process and isolate equipment systems, we can process waste and non-waste materials based on customer needs.
What We Handle
A consumer commodity refers to products produced for retail applications made of or containing chemicals categorized by the EPA as hazardous. These include items like drain cleaners, perfumes, small arms ammunition, aerosol cans and many other products. These may be safely used in households but pose a potential environmental hazard if allowed to be disposed of alongside regular municipal trash.
Before they are thrown out, we rely on these products for our productivity, comfort, security, and convenience. However, when these products are discarded, it’s critical that they be handled responsibly in compliance with state and federal law in a way that reduces their potential environmental impact.
Clean Earth has extensive technical capabilities to handle the processing of many types of consumer commodities. We work directly with pharmaceutical and consumer packaged good companies to reduce lead-time in the processing of consumer commodities such as lab packs, product recalls, damaged, mispackaged, and off-spec products. Clean Earth of Morgantown has a custom built cutting-edge aerosol recycling plant capable of recycling over seven (7) million cans per year. This is the only facility in the nation capable of capturing and separating the propellant from aerosols for recycling and re-blending into fuels. These fuels are used as a cleaner burning alternative to coal for producing electricity and powering cement kilns.
Our innovative recycling methods are stepping up to the environmental challenges of disposing of consumer commodities. By thinking of these waste streams not only as an environmental responsibility but also as a potential resource, we are able to achieve our environmental sustainability goals while offsetting the cost of processing the material.
The Consumer Commodities Recycling system is designed to process pressurized steel or aluminum cans, glass, and plastics containing consumer commodity products. This one of kind unit was specially designed to service the waste industry and allows Clean Earth to completely recycle and/or reuse all components of the waste products.
The process employed is completely automated as containers are crushed and separated from the contents. Empty containers are washed and condensed into dense briquettes while the residual gas and liquid contents are captured and separated for recycling, reuse, return or as a last option disposed. The gas/liquid/container separation process is performed in an oxygen-reduced environment to ensure explosion proof and safe conditions.
The Consumer Commodities Recycling System is versatile. Our system has pre-set programs that can be customized to our customers orders. These “recipes” contain the appropriate operating parameters and program to allow easy transitioning from one material to another.
Proven technology allows for efficient processing of volumes ranging from single containers up to multiple truckload batches. Liquid/Gas mixtures are sent to a vaporizer system to remove en-trained gases. Separated gases can be liquefied and reused as fuel to drive a generator, a forklift, or sent for recovery, recycling, or re-use.
Our system is programmed to facilitate internal flushing and purging of the liquid at the end of the day or when necessary. This feature also allows Clean Earth to return materials to generators to be reworked into their process.

- Vapor Gas Recovery - Capable of recovering propellants and/or gases for reuse recycle. Facility will run on Co-Gen from gas recovery mixed fuels, propane bottling station for use as fuel for facility vehicles, refrigerant propellants (ex. R-134A) for reclamation
