Key Federal Agency Departures

SHARE

APRIL 12, 2019

In March, two federal agency departures were announced. These departures may result in a delay in rules that are currently being worked on at the federal level as well as a change in direction for opioid crisis-related activities.

Neomi Rao, former administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA), a statutory part of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), was confirmed by the U.S. Senate for a seat on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. In her position with OIRA, Rao has been key in moving regulations through the OMB that are going through rulemaking.

In addition, Scott Gottlieb, the commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is resigning from his position, effective in April. Gottlieb has been instrumental in helping combat the opioid crisis.
