As states continue to place a focus on unwanted medication collection policies, three additional states have recently moved forward with legislation regarding various pharmaceutical issues and takeback programs.

  • Florida passed legislation, pending executive approval on July 1, 2017, that allows for patient care providers to properly dispose of controlled substances on behalf of a patient at the time of patient’s death.
  • Nebraska approved $300,000 for general funds for implementation of statewide drug disposal program.
  • South Carolina passed legislation, pending final approval by the Governor, that allows facilities already operating in the state as a registrant to be a registered collector to dispose of ultimate user or decedent’s property.

If you’re seeking assistance in complying with your state’s regulations for pharmaceutical waste disposal, Clean Earth can help.
