Solidification refers to a process that forms a physical bond encapsulating contaminates to the waste matrix. Contaminant migration is often restricted by decreasing the surface area exposed to leaching and/or by coating the wastes with low-permeability materials.
Stabilization refers to processes that reduces risk posed by a waste by converting the contaminants into a less soluble, mobile or toxic form. This technique involves the use of chemical additives to reduce the hazard potential.

Mobile capabilities enable treatment to be performed at the project site, avoiding the high costs associated with traditional transportation and disposal methods.

Treatment strategies are developed and customized, through collaboration with our clients, to achieve the overall objective of the site-specific remediation goals. Treatment options include the reduction of leachable chemical constituents to allow for onsite reuse, or to reduce concentrations to meet Land Disposal Restrictions and Contained-In Policy requirements for offsite disposal as a non-hazardous waste material. Both options offer significant cost savings when compared to traditional hazardous transportation disposal costs.
Solidification and Stabilization treatment methods can be performed either in-situ or ex-situ. In-situ treatment allows for the treatment of waste in place prior to excavating it.
Ex-situ treatment equipment allows larger scale projects to be treated quickly and efficiently. The ex-situ treatment process is accomplished using a specialized mobile pugmill that utilizes computer-controlled technology to ensure homogeneous soil mixing coupled with precision metering of the intended chemical additive ratio(s). Onboard weigh scales make sure soils quantities are accurately measured. Soil treatment can be accomplished effectively and safely at process rates of up to 200 tons/hours or 1,600 tons/day.
When ex-situ treatment is conducted, all materials are screened to less than 3 inches before entering the pugmill. This process ensures debris and other bulky waste are removed from the process stream.
Composite samples are collected throughout the treatment process and analyzed for the appropriate constituents of concern to verify the remedial objectives were achieved. Sample verification is performed compliant to the appropriate operating permits.
