SEPTEMBER 27, 2017

While most state legislatures are out of session at this time, New Jersey and South Carolina are two of the latest U.S. states to move forward with pharmaceutical legislation.

New Jersey: Passed legislation, effective October 19, 2017, that allows hospice care programs to accept unwanted prescription medication from patient/resident no longer in their care and can dispose of medications appropriately. Hospice must create written programs and communicate the program to their patients.

South Carolina: Passed legislation requiring any facility managing any controlled substances to have appropriate licenses and may choose to apply to be a collector. The measure stipulates that DHEC will provide guidance and collaborate with other interested parties for a public awareness program.
