JANUARY 8, 2019

The final rule for the Management Standards for Hazardous Waste Pharmaceuticals has been signed by the EPA and is now waiting for the final step in the rulemaking process, which is for the final rule to be published in the Federal Register.

The final rule was originally anticipated to be released in the Federal Register prior to the end of 2018 but has been pushed until further notice due to the government shutdown.

Once released, the final rule will most likely become effective six months after its publication in Alaska, Iowa, Kentucky, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico. All other states and territories will have to adopt the new rule into each state or territory’s own regulations.
