Bloomberg Environment’s Sylvia Carignan recently spoke with Director of Governmental Affairs Wade Scheel about the new Management Standards for Hazardous Waste Pharmaceuticals Rule.

In the article, Wade talks about how the new U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulation – which went into effect Aug. 21 – changes operations for health care facilities, retail stores and reverse distributors that handle pharmaceutical waste.

“Because of new flexibility in the regulation for how pharmaceutical hazardous wastes are tracked on manifests, reverse distributors may be getting fewer details about the kinds of substances they’re receiving,” Wade said in the article. “Our facilities still have to know how to properly treat that hazardous waste.”

Wade reminds readers of the importance of facilities still knowing how to properly treat specific hazardous waste, even with the new categorized format.
