SEPTEMBER 28, 2018

On Sept. 25, 2018, the House of Representatives reauthorized the Pandemic and All Hazardous Preparedness Act (PAHPRA) – or HR 6378 – and is now awaiting further consideration from Senate.

The passage of the bill marks its third reauthorization. The purpose of the legislation is to improve the nation’s public health and medical preparedness and response capabilities for emergencies. Not only does it address infectious disease outbreaks, but it also focuses on natural disasters, such as hurricanes and mudslides, and the waste management issues that arise from such disasters.

The proposed bill will authorize certain programs under the Public Health Service Act and the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act with respect to public health security and all hazardous preparedness and response.
