Proposed State Legislation on Paint Stewardship, EPR
MARCH 11, 2019
Several states have worked on paint stewardship legislation. Most bills require program maintenance and proper disposal based on type of paint, as well as reporting on quantities. Any entity selling paint into that state is also required to participate.
What are the latest updates?
States with recent paint stewardship activity include Connecticut, which requires state paint stewardship programs to provide more education and information to increase the use of these programs. Additionally, New Jersey and Washington both offer statewide architectural paint stewardship programs.
Stericycle has helped re-purpose or safely dispose of millions of pounds of leftover paint. The majority of paint collected is recycled or turned into energy – both of which dramatically reduce what would otherwise go to a landfill.
