State Update: Hazardous Waste Pharmaceuticals
NOVEMBER 12, 2019
As states continue to make progress on rule making for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Management Standards for Hazardous Waste Pharmaceuticals, we’ve continued to share updates on the progression of this rule on a national and state level. We will keep you updated on developments into 2020.
The new regulations took effect in many states on Aug. 21, 2019, including Alaska, Florida , Iowa, Kentucky, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Dakota and Virginia.
Alabama and Wisconsin are among the states who are still drafting rules for comment, while Washington is working on outlining rules following a webinar on Nov. 12, 2019.
With these new regulations in effect in most states, all industries that deal with waste must review their hazardous waste management practices to ensure their practices are safe and compliant across all facilities. As rules vary state to state, it is crucial to understand the new regulations in full in each state your business is in. Additionally, it is important to note that no facility should make any changes to its programs until the rules take effect under state specific scheduled timelines.
